You can start this route from either New Mills or Hayfield, and it's 2.5 miles between the two former stations. So 5 miles in all. There's a tourist centre at Hayfield, with free leaflets about the trail, the wildlife and the industrial past (textiles) and a map so you can see where you're going. The route itself is very simple as you just stay on the old railway.

Flat, Easy.
Torr Top Car Park, New Mills and Station Road Car Park, Hayfield both give wheelchair access to Sett Valley Trail. From New Mills there are up hill stretches but nothing extreme. A section approaching High Hill Road has an ugly litter problem. Trail scenery improves immensely after that.
Remember to close gates behind you as these prevent children and pets rushing out into the road.
Gate at Station Road, Birch Vale has a good café on the left (coming from New Mills). Sett Valley Café (doing takeaway during Covid restrictions). No bins so please take litter home.
