M90 junction 4 woody walk near Dunfermline, Scotland

Description

If you need open space more than facilities and refreshments, this is a good walk for the M90 Junction 4. Now operated by the Forestry Commission the land here was part of the Blairadam Estate - regularly visited by Sir Walter Scott who raved about the beauty of the Glen.

Walk

Several colour coded trails lead through the most scenic parts of the forest. There's a useful information board to help.  The shortest route is the Kelty Glen Trail (0.5 miles) which is at its best after heavy rain when the waterfall has built up some momentum.  A different Glen Walk is 2 miles. This is the one that Scott rated highly.   If you're interested in recent history, the Mine walk (2.5 miles) goes past the remains of the two Blairenbathie pits.  The first one you reach closed down in the 1960s, and it's hard to try and imagine what the present woodland must have looked like then.

Wonderful Walk for you and your dog

This is one of the best walks in the area. Make sure your drive right down to the main parking area where you can access to lengths of walks or do both! Even on a rainy day its lovey dogs can be off lead.
