An amazing gem
A wonderful find - not somewhere I would ever likely have gone from the motorway, but a relatively short diversion and particularly if you've time for a proper walk, then well worth it.
On a sunny Saturday afternoon of a bank holiday weekend, there was still sufficient car parking space - probably better to pass the first car park and head down the hill.
Lots and lots of walking options on both sides of the river and up to the derelict canal. If planning a circular route, watch out that some maps show a bridge near the easternmost bend of the river - the bridge has been removed, but there is another 500m further south.
