M6 Junction 38 dog-friendly pub and walk near Tebay, Cumbria
PremiumDescription
This walk follows the course of a river, and ducks underneath the M6 to emerge at the site of an ancient motte and bailey fortress in the middle of the water. The pub is lovely and welcoming - it's old, and feels just right (sloping floors and all).

Pink 170 PointsLovely friendly pub
Lovely, friendly pub where all the staff and customers made a fuss of our dogs and gave them treats. Nice fire going on a cold night, and lovely food although a bit expensive for what it was. On the whole a lovely pub we would visit again.

Green 62 PointsNice walk but noisy from motorway and railway line
I found an alternative route which avoided livestock. Go down church Street as suggested in directions but stay on this road all the way to the bottom. This brings you to the footbridge over the river but just on the right is a kissing gate. Go through here and there’s a narrow path that follows the river under the M6. Good shallow areas in the river for the dog to have a splash. This is a reasonable walk but very noisy with M6 and railway both very close by. If you have a noise sensitive dog like mine then you may prefer something further from the motorway and railway line.

Green 15 PointsJuno loved her swim
Will remember this spot next time we're travelling up the M6.
Traffic was terrible as usual but a riverside walk was just what Juno needed after a couple of hours in the car. The narrow sandy path through the woods is well maintained. She loves swimming and the River Lune was perfect for her. Nice and shallow and easy to get in and out of. It was nice to see so many lambs close up, although as the fencing is a bit low in places, large dogs which chase sheep would have to be kept on a lead. Pity about the traffic noise which you can't escape being so close to the motorway, otherwise would have got more stars.

OK but wouldn't return
Average pub. Quite expensive for the standard of food - dogs only allowed in a small section. We did find a nice park up the road although it said no dogs on the field.
