M6 Junction 17 Brereton Heath, Cheshire
PremiumDescription
There are a number of trails in this nature reserve west of Congleton, including an easy access trail. On the day we visited the sun was shining and directly ahead of the car park the lake was glassy smooth – inviting a headlong rush from Jem, and the swift departure of a couple of scowling ducks.

Green 82 PointsPerfect stop - everything you need
Stopped on a journey from Snowdonia to Nottingham.
Sat Nav post code a little short of the entrance but easy to find. Parking only 80p with contactless payment. Toilets right next to the car park entrance.
There are plenty of options to suit all dogs and humans: a flat lakeside path, a woodland walk and an area of heathland.
I don’t use it but there was a handy cafe over the road.

Ideal length for a circular walk to break the journey. Lovely spot with a hard path, trees and grassy areas. Postcode takes you to the car park.

Green 25 PointsPerfect for a picnic break!
Stopped off en-route from Scotland for a lunchtime walk and picnic. Lovely lakeside/woodland walk (25-30 minute circuit), with benches and picnic tables. Pay to park. Saturday afternoon visit: a fair number of people but not too busy. Visitor centre currently closed because of lockdown but toilets open. (Ice-cream van there too!) Midway between junctions 17 and 18, so off one and back on the other. Would highly recommend!

Good for a short walk, go left off the car park and around the lake for a good sized exercise field or go round the lake anticlockwise if your dog likes a run on a big field just before getting back to the car. Plenty of country pubs nearby but not sure which accept dogs.
