M42 Junction 2 dog walk and a dog-friendly pub or picnic spot, Worcestershire
Description
Way back, even before the Romans, Icknield Street was a major route for travellers and so loads of feet and paws will have trodden this walk before you. Maybe there was a neolithic take-away where the Peacock is now! Between M42 Junctions 2 and 3.

Walk
We did this walk on a really, really wet day and quite honestly if it's raining and you have the choice of walking somewhere else, go for it. So pretending that the sun is shining and all is well, the North Worcestershire path does give you some pleasant views and lovely green rolling countryside. To get started, take the track off Lea End Lane - right by the car park - and walk towards Little Forhill Farm. Near the end of this you'll spot a footpath marker on the left and the right for the Worcestershire path. You want the one on the left. The problem is that the stile there is falling apart and so is its partner on the far side of this small field. There's an illegal detour if you go just a few paces further and then turn left and past some farming stuff. Look for a footpath sign on the right and then you're back on track. This first bit is messy, but as soon as you get through the obstacles you'll be in lovely open fields where any dog will be delighted. Turn around at your halfway point and return to the Peacock.
Forhill Picnic site You'll see a sign for this directly opposite the Peacock. I parked there early in the morning, and thought how lovely it was with picnic tables and plenty of nicely cut grass. Returning a few hours later it was full of men sitting in cars staring at each other. So possibly not the place for a family picnic.
