M20 Junction 8 dog walk, Kent
Description
Good walking routes from a small Kentish village. This was better when the pub was open, and it's scheduled to open again late in 2024.
Details
Small public car park opposite the 13th century Dirty Habit pub. The Dirty Habit is currently being renovated and is due to re-open in Autun 2024. It used to be dog-friendly, and hopefully will be again.
Walk
The pub lies right on the North Downs Way and so this is a really easy route to get the dog relaxed and exercised with no hassle. The first part of the route is shared with car access to the houses on the no-through road and also with cyclists on their Route 15. Once you're past the houses dogs are safe off-lead, although at weekends there are a lot of cyclists to contend with. The route starts on tarmac and is semi-surfaced after that, so this is a good walk for keeping feet dry and clean. As a second option for a short walk and avoiding bikes, take the first footpath on the right (just at the end of the houses) and walk at the side of a field. On the day we were here the small blue flowers of a flax crop were shimmering like gemstones in the sun. Gorgeous!
