M1 Junction 11 dog walk on the Downs, Bedfordshire
PremiumDescription
This is a fabulous dog walk on an ancient track that was once the pre-Roman highway between the Ivinghoe Beacon in Hertfordshire and far away Norfolk. It's one of the oldest known routes in Britain, and there's a helpful notice board explaining its history.
The walk starts at a high point, so there's no need to clamber up the sizeable hill. Instead, while the dog flaps his ears in the breeze you can enjoy the stunning view over the valley. There's a handily placed National Trust cafe near the car park.

Fab walk but ...
This is an absolutely fab place to walk and marvel at the vistas. Kites and hang gliders galore. The only 'but" is that between April and Auguat you are supposed to keep your dog on a short lead so they don't disturb nesting birds in the grasslands. I confess we didn't as our Border Terrier doesn't stray off the path away from us. But if you have a dog/s that love to gallop through the grass it would be a bit restrictive at those times of the year. Totally gorgeous place though so definitely worth a visit!
