A89 Exit 17 dog-friendly Lascaux caves, France
PremiumDescription
The dog walk here is a proper forest walk, not just a tour underground! The pre-historic cave paintings of Lascaux are world famous; so much so that the originals can no longer be visited, as exposure to modern air and moisture was destroying them.
Amazingly a copy of the most impressive caves has been made, with everything reproduced down to the last tiny detail. OK, it's very commercial tourism - but you can't help but salute the painstaking effort that's gone into recreating the caves, tunnels and paintings.
The only way to get in is with a guided tour - and there are tours with English speaking guides. Our guide had a fantastic sense of humour and drama, and really brought the place to life. You can take your dog on the 45 minute tour too - provided that it is carried all the way round.
