A7 exit 24 Caumont doggiestop, France
PremiumDescription
Sometimes we stumble on the entirely unexpected - such as this former 12th century monastery with gardens, wine tasting and an entertaining self-guide tour of the buildings with the help of a monk with an Anne Robinson wink, and some fun multimedia effects.
To begin with, we were more than slightly irked that you can't get to the gardens without paying for the tour and then thought we were going to get a hard sell on the wine on the way out.
In the event the tour was excellent, the 18th century formal gardens have seen better days and definitely need the water feature cleaning up, and if we'd been in the mood for buying wine (and had space in the boot) there would have been nothing to complain about.
