A5 canalside dog walk between Rugby and Northampton, Northamptonshire
Description
Small canal-side pub that is right on the A5 (Watling Street). It's only dog-friendly at the outside tables, but is incredibly easy to get to from the road if you're heading north towards Rugby/Lutterworth. The pub only made the listings because of its location near the canal and we didn't eat here or go inside.
Details
The car park is before the pub, and immediately after a lay-by. If you spot the lay-by in time it's a better place to park if you're not stopping at the pub.

Walk
Dogs may not be over-welcome in the pub, but the walk is nothing to sniff at. The Grand Union canal has some exciting moments, and this section running through the Watford Gap has a steep lock flight with big heavy gates holding the water back from steep lock chambers. The towing path is on the other side of the water from the pub, and you can walk in either direction.
