A38 dog walk and dog-friendly cafe near Taunton, Somerset
PremiumDescription
Much more than a pitstop off the A38, gardeners, shoppers, dogs and kids will all find something very special here.
Dating from pre-medieval times, the house and grounds have always moved with the times, with extensions, refurbs, and updates in probably every century since 1200! For many years the grounds were separated from the house and the future of the place looked bleak. It was the HQ of the Somerset Fire Brigade for most of the 20th century. Happily, it's been put back together and visitors are welcomed. The gardens are amazing, and dogs are welcome to stroll around some of Jekyll's planting schemes - Jem was delighted! You can take your dog into the gardens, and the cafe, and the shops - which gets big woofs of approval from us. Build a visit here into your trip planning to make the most of it - and if you're staying nearby it's worth devoting a day (if you like gardens).
