This is where William the Conqueror fought his battle and took the English throne. And Harald lost his eye and a kingdom. Since then the sea has receded so it's not as dramatic as you might expect. Dogs won't care in the slightest about the battle but they will enjoy the walk, and the dog-friendly hotel.
