This can be quite an exciting walk with the dog past the site of the Battlefield of Maldon in 991. It seems that the local worthy,  Earl Byrhtnoth took on the Vikings and lost the battle and his head. The Vikings sailed up the river, which gives the dog walk here a bit of spice.
