Lovely pub, great food, friendly locals, fabulous rooms. Good for lunch and a leg stretch or an overnight stop. Not so good for a long dog walk due to roads.
This is one of my regular stopovers on the journey from the Highlands to Oxfordshire. It’s a busy pub with a great local feel, the bar has a roaring fire and flagstone floors and there’s always someone for a friendly chat - dogs are a great conversation starter! I travel on my own with my two terriers, one of which is a dreadful traveller, so we stop here to decompress with a snooze and a glass of wine by the fire, then a hearty supper and retire to bed in one of the gorgeous en-suite rooms. There’s a pretty pub garden and behind that a small meadow belonging to the pub, where you and pooches can stretch legs. Longer walks aren’t great, would involve a bit of road first, and the roads are a bit fast but there’s verges to escape onto.
