Picturesque dog walk near Tywyn, Gwynedd, Wales
Visited November 2010, excellent dog walk (keep them away from the steep drops). Doggy swimming opportunities and loads of photogenic spots. Not been in the summer so not sure how busy it gets.
Hartington dog walk and dog-friendly pubs, Derbyshire
A really nice walk starting in the pretty village of Hartington. Very easy going and not steep, although we went on a wet day and some sections in the first couple of miles were quite slippery. The directions are spot on. Pub good and happy to let dogs in. Note that the WC at the start of the walk is just across the road from the car park. Distance was closer to 6 3/4 miles according to our GPS.
M6 Junction 12 dog walk, Staffordshire
Nice walk through the trees, there are so many different aspects to Cannock Chase and its detached portions. There are a few alternate parking places along the B5012.
M6 Junction 23 dog walk at the Flash, Lancashire
Visited March 2010. A bit busy at the weekend but plenty of space. Ice Cream van and hot food stall were in attendance! Parking £1. Postcode will get you near enough, but main car park is at lat/lon 53.487254,-2.538781
M56 Junction 5 dog walk and industrial heritage, Cheshire
I love this walk, I tend to park at the free car park at The Carrs and walk through the woods to the river then follow it to Manchester Airport. You can either return through Styal itself or retrace back along the river. Easy to find your way back as all the bridges over the river have nameplates with names like "Kingfisher Bridge". For a quick river walk The Carrs itself isn't bad, for this follow the river where you see it from the car park, for the Styal walk follow the path behind the toilets and over the bridge parallel to the road bridge. Car park has toilets but they close fairly early. For satnav/gps users the free car park is at lat/lon 53.33579,-2.24052
M90 Junction 10 dog walk near Perth, Scotland
Visited March 2010, a nice woodland walk. We only did the short (blue) route as we were on our second stop on a 400 mile trip and needed to get moving. Co-ords 56.35405251, -3.389561176 will get you well down the lane that leads here, then just follow the lane until you see the well signed turn on the left. The track to the car parking area is a bit rough, although we went when there was a lot of snow and ice around and it may be better in the warmer weather. No poo or litter bins.
M6 Junction 42 River Eden dog walk and pub, Cumbria
Visited March 2010, really nice walk along the river. There is a coffee shop just up the road from the hotel and also the post office/shop sells a good range of snacks, hot drinks and wines should you fancy a picnic. 99 steps are all repaired now. For satnav/gps users 54.88260455, -2.832914293 will take you to the street between the coffee shop and the hotel. If you are towing a caravan you may want to park further up the road near the green as there is not much scope for turning and the road ends at the station car park which is quite small.
Ladderedge dog walk, Staffordshire
Not a bad little walk which I've visited a few times. The narrow waterway that runs to the right of the car park is the feeder channel from Rudyard Lake to the start of the Leek branch of the Caldon Canal which can be picked up again across the road. The walk itself is really just a couple of big fields bordered by a tree line, but dogs love it and can happily run free. A few picnic tables are dotted around for a snack. There is a small shop just up Ladderedge from here and Morrisons and the shops in Leek are not far away to stock up before the walk.
The well known Hollybush dog friendly pub is a short distance away and is signposted from the main road heading from here to Stoke-on-Trent.
Co-ordinates for satnav for this walk is -2.04183, 53.09281
Mabie Forest dog walk and dog-friendly hotel, Scotland
Visited here in September '09. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. The waymarked routes are easy to follow and start from an easy 1 miler up to some more challenging walks. Think car park is £2 now.
Formby dog-friendly beach, Merseyside
Visited Formby Point again today, still one of our favourite dog walks. Few if any dog restrictions and great mix of sea, clean sand, dunes and pine forest. Even red squirrels if you are lucky enough. National Trust car park is £4.00, gets busy at weekends in good weather. Once you are on the car park facilities are toilets and ice cream so stock up at the shops near the railway crossing before you go to the car park. No alcohol or barbecues allowed on the site. Co-ords for satnav/GPS: 53.5655, -3.0873
Thurstaston Beach dog-friendly beach, Merseyside
We must have just gone at the wrong time of day. The water was at it's lowest and there was only really mud for a dog to play in. Good visitor centre at Wirral Country Park (where the car park is) but dogs have to be on lead all around there. Country park would be good for a picnick if your dog is happy to stay on lead. Might be worth a look if you are passing but don't make a special trip unless you check the tides. Co-ordinates for satnav/GPS users is 53.342444, -3.144338
Visited November '09. Good beach for dogs and car park is right across the road. Some of the roads to here are narrow, often single track and very twisty - those sort of "fingers crossed nothing comes the other way" sort of roads.
