Excellent all weather walk
We did this walk on a February day in the rain and it was still delightful. The Star pub has everything a dog family could wish for and the Common is well maintained and stunningly beautiful. Our dog, Tuesday, got thoroughly muddy, leapt around in the bracken, discovered molehills, and is now curled up utterly content in the car as we continue our journey.

Pleasant woodland
We did this walk on a wind-blown day after 2 days of high winds and much rain. Consequently the first path (going away, see photo) was very muddy and there were two fallen trees across the second path (coming back). If using this walk after rain I recommend either having wellies in the car or just using the second path. I've added a photo of where the second path comes out at the approach road to the car park. Our dog, Tuesday, really loved the walk and we were charmed by the peace and beauty in the depth of winter (early Feb, see photo). The pub was cosy. There was even a small fire in the doggy section which we sat beside. In summer there would be loads of attractive space with a sheltered garden room and two picnic areas, one smoking, one not.

Delightful in Autumn
On a cold day we were very pleased with this walk as it offered mainly dry paths with lots of options allowing us to tailor the walk to the daylight available and the loos and a cup of tea at the end were most welcome. 2 teas was £4.50 but the dog was allowed in the cafe with us so well worth it. Beautiful open forest and heath with ponds and wildlife. Dog off lead most of the time.
