M6 Jct 28 Cuerden Valley dog walks, Lancashire
Great place to stop for dogs and humans!
Cuerden Valley Park had all that our dog loves - water, woodland and enough room to run. We stopped twice on our way to the Lake District and back, and on the return trip we went to the Visitor centre for brunch - welcome and food very good, with dogs allowed outside on the terrace which overlooks the park. It's obviously a popular place for locals to walk (always a good sign), and there are toilets at the visitor centre, which were very welcome on the journey.

Lovely woodland dog walk - with picnic benches
We stopped for a break here en route to the Lake District and it was great. A lovely woodland which is easy to find your way around even though the markers are a bit worn. We had a picnic on a hot day underneath the trees, and there are rubbish bins to get rid of your rubbish which helps on a long journey. Top tip is not to park immediately off the road, but to keep driving up until you see the water tower. Will stop here again.

Good circular walk providing a breather from the A40
We stopped at Kilkenny Country Park (just off the A40) en route to Somerset and it provided a good 40 minute circular walk around the park, which is clearly popular with local dog walkers. Picnic bench, poo bins and interesting community art in the form of wrought iron Horses!
