M6 Junction 38 dog-friendly pub and walk near Tebay, Cumbria
Nice walk but noisy from motorway and railway line
I found an alternative route which avoided livestock. Go down church Street as suggested in directions but stay on this road all the way to the bottom. This brings you to the footbridge over the river but just on the right is a kissing gate. Go through here and there’s a narrow path that follows the river under the M6. Good shallow areas in the river for the dog to have a splash. This is a reasonable walk but very noisy with M6 and railway both very close by. If you have a noise sensitive dog like mine then you may prefer something further from the motorway and railway line.

Peaceful and beautiful but also wet and muddy
If you like to be out in the middle of nowhere and don’t mind a really wet and muddy path then this is for you! We did this walk-in November so the terrain is probably at its worst but with some wellies and a border collie it’s just perfect to get away from the motorway! The access road is single track so may be challenging in snow but there’s a good sized car park at the end of it. A real find if you like the rough and ready outdoors.
