Picturesque castle ruins in the Eden Valley, just off the A66. Limited on-lead walking for dogs, but a smashing place for kids who love charging around castles with plastic swords.
'Withnail and I' fans will recognise this walk as the route to the cottage that was used in the film. Dogs will just adore the open space.
A real hidden gem just outside the national park and there's plenty to do here and no crowds.
Homely village pub with tasty home-cooked food. Access to the dog walk needs a bit of road walking but then you're in for a treat of a walk with dog swimming in the lovely River Eden.
If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go. It looks like a film set from a dystopian future which is marvellous for a pensive sort of dog walk.
Walk around the lake, or head into the valley behind, or just take the dog for a paddle - there's plenty of choice here, and the paths are mostly manageable all year round - you'll need to scramble...
A really pretty Cumbrian village and it wins a lot of the 'best kept' 'best flowers' competitions. Until the railway came the market here was of real importance but now just the cobbles remain.
