Mersey River, Greater Manchester
Description
Starts at Chorlton Water Park, along the River Mersey up to Trafford Water Park. Approx 4km each way.
Details
GPS coords for car park: 53.4240, -2.2665 Toilets available at both water parks. There is sometimes a coffee van or ice cream van at Chorlton Water park and I think there may be a cafe at Trafford Water Park (but dogs not allowed inside)
Walk
Start in the car park at the end of Maitland Avenue. Head down the hill towards the lake and head clockwise round the lake to the opposite side where you can see a large bridge crossing the river. Head right along the river until you reach the end when the tram line crosses the river. Cross the bridge to the other side and walk back. Trafford Water park is on the far side of the river near the tram bridge down one of the many paths. There is a nice pub about 2k along from Chorlton Water Park (called Jacksons Boat) which dogs are allowed in, which is open from lunchtime. The walk can be extended by walking round either/both of the lakes or by going through the wood which are on the far side of the river near the large bridge at Chorlton Water Park (I think there are maps on view in the car park/information point). It is 1 mile round Chorlton Water Park lake and a bit further round Trafford Water Park lake. It is fishing season at Chorlton Water Park from May to December and not all fishermen are dog friendly.
