Berrygrove Woods dog walk in Hertfordshire, just off the M1, Hertfordshire
Description
Just off junction 5 of the M1 and the Bushey/Watford exit from the A41, this is a good spot for a woodland leg stretch and can be extended into a 2 mile circuit around the golf course or even a full 90-minute walk along the river (easy access at various points for a cooling doggy-dip) and through open fields. Bluebells in spring are a particular draw.
Details
GPS coords for parking: 51.6730, -0.3541 From Jn 5 of the M1 head south on the A41 towards London. At the first roundabout take the first exit towards Radlett and Aldenham. After about 1/2 mile take the first turning on the left to Aldenham Village, Church Lane. You pass the entrance to the footpath on the left but continue on past the golf club and park next to the village green where there is a parking lay-by.
Walk
Walk back along the road to the horse-gate (now on your right) and follow the path along the side of the field with the golf course beyond the hedge on your right. At the end of the field continue straight on to enter the woods. Once in the woods there are various paths that go around and through the woods - you can have as long or as short a walk as required. If you look closely you'll spot some wood carvings hewn from tree stumps on the way.
You can do a circuit within the wood and return the way you came via the field-edge footpath or there is a longer route that follows around the perimeter of the golf course and brings you back to the green where you parked the car. There is little or no protection from the golf course so if there's any likelihood of your dog running on the course and - uh-oh! - stealing the balls you may need to keep them on lead on the adjacent parts.
For a 3½ mile walk past a wetland area, along the River Colne and across fields (there are sometimes sheep!) check the route on the attached picture file. The Bluebells on this route in spring are stunning.

Good woods
Really nice walk, down a ROW and then into the woods.
Parking was a bit tricky and feels like you’rea bit in the way.
Met lots of other dogs and people too!
