Ainsdale Beach nr Southport. Finns favourite, Lancashire
Description
This beach is a god send for reactive dogs and sight hounds with NO recall 😊 Further along from Formby Beach towards Southport along the Coastal Rd turn left onto Shore Rd. Immediateley on the right is a small pay and display car park, further down there is a Pontins on the left and straight in front is the beach access. There is limited parking on the side of the road but there is paid parking on the beach. In Summer the beach near the parking can be very busy, and there are dog restrictions 200 mars either side of entrance during peak periods. There are no restrictions ANYTIME outside this area. This sandy beach is VAST. Walk 400 yds from the car parking and you will be very unlucky to see anybody but dog walkers, even on the hottest August day. The sea at low tide can be up to 1/2 a mile away! and no shingle or pebbles in sight. Along the full length of the beach you have huge sand dunes which go on for miles, and have sandy paths criss crossing them, but be warned the grass is very coarse and very sharp if you stray off path. Some of the dunes are HUGE and ideal for wearing out the fittest dogs. Take lots of water!! They often have sand yacht racing and race horse training in winter. Although this is a blue flag beach be careful the closer you get to the sea. The offshore drilling platform (clearly visible) has left some oily sludge in some of the lower areas of the beach where the water pools. It is very windy 90% of the time, but you will be very unlucky to ever see rain, even in Winter The pics below were taken in the hot weather during half term hols. There were hundreds of people on the beach nr the entrance but this pic looks like the Sahara!
Details
200 mtrs either side of entrance in high season, outside of this no restrictions all year round. As the sea never reaches the foreshore, ever, the sand os firm enough for wheelchair use
