This is my go-to dog cake recipe every November as it's a perfect way to use up apple windfalls and bananas that have spent too much time in a rucksack or the back of the car!  They're pawfect Treats for our dog walking group and all the dogs love these cupcakes.

Ingredients

1 ripe banana, mashed

1/2 apple, grated

120g whole wheat flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 egg

60ml water

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 180°C (fan-assisted) and grease a small cake tin or individual cupcake moulds.

In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed banana, grated apple, egg, and water.

Gradually add the whole wheat flour and baking powder, stirring until you have a smooth batter.

Pour the batter into the greased cake tin or moulds.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean.

Allow the cake to cool completely before serving to your dog.

Extra topping

For special occasions you can add mashed potato or natural yogurt  icing, and decorate with strips of apple and carrot.

This cake is a special treat for your furry friend, but remember to feed it to them in moderation. You can substitute porridge oats for the flour, or dog-safe mealworm for extra protein.  Enjoy baking for your pup!
