This was a surprise - we were expecting a pretty lagoon of scenic delight. But the lagoon had almost no water in it, apparently for 'safety concerns'.
When the tide is out the beach here is an enormous doggie playground with views across to the hills surrounding the South Lakes.
A perfect walk for sociable dogs, with soft lush grass, doggie beaches by the river and swimming. Always check the river levels before letting your dog in the water.
A dog-friendly pub with access to several really long dog walks over the fells, and a shorter one for dogs on a journey.
A useful park to know about if you're staying in the area, and a good place to start the Barnoldswick heritage trail.
One of our favourite dog walks in the area, with shady woodland and a lake and a background of chattering birds. It's a delight and very soothing.
A walk across the top of the Gower peninsula with spectacular views and guaranteed happy dogs.
A new country park in the making, set on the footprint of the old Monkton colliery. Already the footpaths are well laid out and nature is settling back and making the landscape live again.
An interestingly post-feudal village, with the church, the pub and the big house neatly placed together. A good walk runs through the estate.
A quiet and leafy picnic area with several picnic tables and a pleasant area to take a break. There's a signed walk too.
In warm weather the cooling view of these large reservoirs is a charm. There are quite a few footpaths, but the obvious ones by the water are close to sheep or fenced off for people fishing.
