Details
Lovingly renovated to the Askham Hall standard by the Lowther family, discover seasonal 'super-posh' pub food made with produce reared, foraged and grown on our farms, hedgerows and kitchen gardens. Think earthy truffle with creamy artichoke; deep-flavoured seasonal game and home-reared saddleback pork; hand-dived scallops and local lobster; brassicas, herby pestos, berries and orchard fruits. Make the most of the location with an invigorating walk on the local fells, or a more gently stroll along the river Lowther right from the door, with no need to drive anywhere during your stay. Back at the pub enjoy a local pint by the copper topped bar before a refined yet hearty dinner. Booking essential, with just 9 tables and 6 bedrooms, this is 'posh' country pub perfection.
Full Walk Details
Walk added by the DwD Team: This is a good walk for a motorway leg-stretch for Fido: easy to find and no complicated directions needed. Just turn left from the pub (with your back to it) and then turn right by a grassy triange and walk towards Tirril Farm. Pass through a couple of farm gates, these are marked with yellow footpath arrows to keep you on track. Stay on this track, which becomes more and more rural and walk between fields of sheep for about 15 minutes. And then the path runs out. Super easy to follow and ideal for dogs to get some good Cumbrian sniffing and scampering.
