Full Walk Details
Several really popular walks start from Clapham, and you'll spot helpful signposts to get you started from the village car park. In summer there are sometimes tourist leaflets to take from a box at the entrance to the car park. Be aware that this area has a lot of sheep on the hills. Walk 1 2.5 miles and about an hour of walking, allow extra time for enjoying the views. From the village car park turn right onto Church Lane. Walk past a playground to the church. Turn right just before the church, past the clergy parking spaces and then walk behind the church and take the track. This is marked as the Pennine Bridleway/Pennine Journey and also Thwaite Lane rather randomly. Take the first turn on the left (Long Lane) and follow this track with the woodland on your left for just over half a mile. Then take the path on your left down to the river, or river bed in dry weather, and go up the slope to find the bridleway and turn left. Follow this path past the entrance to the Ingleborough Cave and back to Clapham. Be aware of sheep and put dogs on lead as necessary. Walk 2 Again, turn right onto Church Lane, pass the playground and church and then turn right into the Ingleborough Estate where there are a number of trails and access to the famous Caves. This is a better option for a longer visit as there's an Entry fee to the estate. Approx £3.50 per person and £1 per child. Dogs need to be on leads.
