Slough Arm towpath, Berkshire
SL2 5AU
Description
This was the last canal to be built in Britain except for the Manchester Ship Canal. Originally it was used to transport bricks from the various Slough brickworks. By the late 1930's the clay and gravel deposits were becoming worked out so the canal was used to bring waste from London to infill the redundant pits. The last recorded commercial cargo was delivered in March 1960. A really interesting piece of London history. Now it's just a peaceful towpath.
