Ale Water picnic spot, Scotland
TD6 9JF
Description
A very out of the way riverside picnic spot with access to the river for hot dogs. There's nothing going on in the village, although it was home to the 18th century poet William Knox. He penned Abraham Lincoln's favourite poem, Mortality. The poem is long and not immensely cheerful, starting with: " O why should the spirit of mortal be proud! Like a fast flitting meteor, a fast flying cloud, A flash of the lightning, a break of the wave – He passes from life to his rest in the grave ."
