A62 Exit 7 Agen - the prune capital, France
44° 12' 32.76" N 0° 37' 17.8644" E
Description
Not worth making a detour for, but if you're overnighting in Agen then the towpath is where Fifi goes to be seen of an evening.
If you like prunes, then definitely head for Agen to stock up on the most deliciously soft, tasty and impeccably bottled fruits. I love them - but it's a sort of Marmite thing!
Details
Very untouristy - so you'll find a number of small restaurants and bars, some very good value as there's a big student population here. There's also an Ibis hotel in the middle of town, and it's dog-friendly.
How to get there
Leave the A62 at junction 7 and follow the Centre Ville signs for Agen. You can find free on-street parking in the narrow roads by the train station.
Full Walk Details
Local dogs take their constitutionals along the side of the canal in Agen. It's not great, but seems to be the best the town has to offer.
Cross the canal at the train station, using the footbridge - but if your dog is nervous of slightly see-through metal bridges use the traffic bridge by the university instead.
