This is a popular walking spot for local dogs, and there is plenty of lush grassy space for dogs to hurtle around in. There are a number of little beaches around the loch - ideal for picnics (or a snooze).

This walk is midway between Junction 3 and 4 near Uddingston - so a useful stop whichever way you're heading.

A very handy stopping point whether you're heading north or south, as this enormous park spans almost the complete distance between Junctions 5 and 6.

Enjoy a tranquil leafy walk alongside the loch or, if you have kids to please, there's a beach and funfair/theme park that should satisfy younger passengers.

This is a fantastic environment for dogs, as well as families. There is plenty of space for everyone, and an ideal stopping point before heading into one of the big cities.

There are six signed trails of different lengths and directions around this enormous country park, and several have good dog swimming access.

Nearest town is Hamilton.

A mix of activities here, with tasty home cooking on offer in a garden centre (with spotlessly clean loos) and then a truly rural footpath walk - best attempted before you succumb to the cakes!

This is a short walk for dogs, on hard surfaced paths ideal for wheelchairs, buggies, and wet days when you don’t want to get your feet too wet.

Dogs and heritage buffs will both love this 30-40 minute walk to Castle Dangerous and back. Explanation boards along the way explain the background, including an interesting Polish connection.

Branded as the first ‘Walkers' Town’ in Scotland, some impeccable organisation has gone into creating a series of well marked trails in and around the town and environs.

There are two dog-friendly pubs in the town, and useful shops for provisions.
