Burbage Common

Map of M69 Junction 2 Walk

Enter woods through kissing gate and follow the clearly marked path. This leads over a wooden footbridge and bears round to the right.

There are several well maintained paths in the wood, and on a hot day it’s worth tarrying in the woods to let dogs take in the cooling air.

Whichever path you take, keep heading away from the road and this will bring you to the edge of the wood and next to fields. On reaching the boundary, turn right to walk with the wood to the right and fields to the left. There are signed footpaths on either the woodland (no stiles) or the muddier parallel field side (with stiles).

Continue to the far corner of the wood, where several paths meet, and then follow the direction of the footpath sign to pass some picnic tables and Woodhouse Farm.

Go under the railway bridge and follow the blue footpath signs onto Burbage Common.

The blue signs apparently lead to a visitor centre, which we somehow missed, even though the road leading to it can be seen on the far side of the common.
Burbage Common is a large open space with plenty of space for dogs to let off steam. It can also be very wet underfoot, so wellies are a very good idea after heavy rain.
