Getting There

Bowlee Park

Leave the M62 at junction 19 and follow the signs for Middleton A6046, Eastbound 3rd exit, Westbound 1st exit.

Enter Middleton. At the pelican crossing by the Gardener’s Arms turn right onto Langley Lane and pass the Birch Pet Hotel on the right.

At the T-junction turn left and shortly after passing the 40mph sign, turn left into the unsigned car park.  The car park is gated.

Return to M62 Junction 19

Exit the car park and turn right.  Opposite the White Hart turn right to return up Langley Lane.  At the T-junction turn left and stay on this road to return to Junction 19 of the M62.

Bowlee Park

Bowlee Art Trail information board

Walk to the end of the car park, through the gate, and turn right down the metalled lane.  This is part of the Rochdale Way.  This lane brings you out into a large open area. Bear round this to the left.  At the first corner you will see three paths – turn left here

This is a metalled track that heads off into an area  that has trees on both sides of the path.  The land on the left soon opens out to wider grassier land.  Cross over a lane and continue ahead along the unmaintained track with trees on the right and grass on the left.  This path gets muddy in wet weather.

After crossing a wooden bridge there is a choice of turning left or right.  The right turn leads towards more countryside, the left turn takes you back to the car park.

Bowlee Park is much more expansive than it seems at first, and there is good walking to be had here.

There is also the option of following the Bowlee Art Trail – the artwork is featured on a series of boulders with figures or objects of local interest featured on them.
